Book - Illustration Friday

The topic for Illustration Friday this week is 'book'. I went with the idea, that with the advent of e-books and all the other future technologies that will one day come to pass, children might not even know what physical paper books are - scary!

  1. Say it ain't so! I actually think some books will stay around, even centuries on, at least as art objects. There is something so nice about beautifully printed illustrations. Plus, I suppose you could put a Kindle on the coffee table, but clearly a book is better!

Lovely style and characters! Do you use masking fluid for the white lines? I love the tile and details!

    1. I completely agree, it is my worst nightmare, I hate everything being so smooth and plastic all the time, tvs, phones, laptops, readers, they all feel the same, objects need texture and a smell!

No, no masking fluid, I paint each bit as carefully as I can, and then often have to clean it up digitally. Keep telling myself I should get some, would be sure to make things a bit easier - I'm sure I'll get round to it eventually :)

  2. They'll probably have some new form of ebook that looks exactly like a paper book, and is marketed as "retro." Something for hipsters to buy!

    1. lol, very true Tony, but they will have to replicate the texture and smell before I'd be happy. It makes me said that everything can be updated and replaced so easily.

  3. Aaaah!! A totally scarey idea! Please please let it not happen! Nothing like the smell and feel of a book and to be cuddled in bed with a torch reading to the small hours.

  4. Ugh! I hope that doesn't happen! I just love turning the pages of a real book! Haven't bought a kindle....yet, anyway!
Another great illustration, albeit scary! Love how it has sort of a mosaic quality!
